10.5. Brake hoses and tubes

Each six months on the car lifted and fixed on supports it is necessary to check the brake hoses connecting steel highways of the brake system to lobbies and back brake mechanisms for lack of cracks, attritions of an external covering, leaks, swellings and other damages. These are important and the most subject to damages elements of the brake system therefore survey has to be comprehensive. Lighting and mirrors will help to carry out inspections. If on a hose traces of any damage are found, replace it.

Forward brake hose

Fig. 10.14. Arrangement of brackets of support of a forward brake hose

At a detachment of a brake hose use an alligator wrench. Weaken a nut of a flange and remove a bracket of support of a brake hose (fig. 10.14). At connection establish a bracket, then tighten a nut of fastening of a flange.
At installation check purity of a carving of a hollow bolt.
After installation of a brake hose be convinced that the hose is not overwound also without loops. Make sure that at turn of a forward wheel from one extreme situation in another the brake hose does not adjoin to elements of a forward suspension bracket and a body.
Remove air from the hydraulic drive of the brake system.

Back brake hose
By means of an alligator wrench disconnect a hose from two parties, be accurate – do not bend fastenings or steel tubes.
Flat-nose pliers remove all clips and take the conic ends of a hose from a suspension bracket.
Turn off a bolt of fastening of a suspension bracket of a hose and remove a hose.
Without twisting of a hose establish its conic ends in frame suspension brackets.
Establish fixing clips of the conic end of a hose on a suspension bracket.
Alligator wrench attach steel tubes to fastenings of the ends of a hose. Be accurate – do not bend fastenings or steel tubes.
Check that at installation of a hose the suspension bracket on a frame was not weakened. Tighten a suspension bracket in case of need.
Fill a tank and remove air from the hydraulic drive of the brake system.

Steel tubes of the brake system
In need of replacement of tubes use only steel two-layer tubes or other checked material. If copper tubes are used, firmly follow instructions of the manufacturer for application of additional clips of support.
On sale there are previously formed brake tubes of various length.
If previously formed tubes are not found, acquire the recommended system of tubes and connectors for replacement. Determine the exact length of an old brake tube and cut off a new tube according to the measured length, leaving near
1 cm in addition for conical expansion on the ends.
Establish connectors on tubes and form cones according to the ISO standards.
By means of the tool for bending of tubes bend a tube in a form of an old brake tube.
Cone-shaped expansion of a tube and bend can be executed in any auto repair shop.
At installation of a brake tube leave a gap not less than 75 mm between a tube and any moving parts.
Remove air from the hydraulic drive of the brake system.
