11.2. Forward suspension bracket

The suspension bracket is a link between a body and wheels. Forces influencing wheels are transmitted through it on a body. The elements entering a suspension bracket soften dynamic loadings, reduce fluctuations of a body, provide good stability and smoothness of the course of the car.

Forward and back suspension brackets independent (fig. 11.2). The design uses a combination of a spring and the shock-absorber which is fixed directly on a rotary fist. The lower lever of a forward suspension bracket fastens to a rotary fist. To the lower levers the stabilizer of cross stability which represents the core bent as appropriate made of spring steel fastens. It works as follows: if when passing turn the wheel which is on the internal radius of turn departs from the car, the stabilizer is twisted. This arisen elastic force supports now a damping rack which is located on the external radius of turn that together with springs increases rigidity of this rack. Considerable reduction of lists of the car when passing turns is result of operation of the stabilizer. If the car tilts at the same time, for example, with braking, the stabilizer does not work.

Some models are also equipped with system of three-stage depreciation which regulates damping of shock-absorbers manually or automatically (fig. 11.3). This system is realized by means of the executive mechanisms installed in the top part of racks which turn a lath approximately on 60 ° for damping action change. On these models gas-filled shock-absorbers while on models with unregulated system of damping ordinary tight hydraulic shock-absorbers are used are used.
It is strictly forbidden to carry out welding and leveling works on elements of a forward suspension bracket. Surely replace самоконтрящиеся nuts, and also bolts with corrosion traces.

Check of a suspension bracket
Suspension bracket elements usually work normally long time, except for cases of their damages at accidents. Nevertheless elements of a suspension bracket demand periodic check on existence of wear which can lead to loss of accuracy of management and comfort at the movement.
Check that components of a suspension bracket did not sag owing to wear. You perform visual inspection on lack of changes in a suspension bracket at the parking of the car on a plain horizontal surface. Violations in a suspension bracket usually meet only after the big run of the car and are more shown from the driver.
Include transfer and slow down the car the parking brake. Undertake a steering wheel both hands from above and turn it to the right-to the left. Listen to any foreign sounds or metal noise. Check a free wheeling of a steering wheel. At detection ask the assistant to shake the car, the malfunction source will not be revealed yet.
Check shock-absorbers as they more than other elements of a suspension bracket, are subject to wear. The characteristic signs testifying to malfunction of the shock-absorber is the following:
– long rocking of a body at the movement on an uneven paving;
– increase in fluctuations of a body at the movement on an uneven paving;
– the non-uniform and unstable motion of wheels (jumping) at the movement in the certain range of speeds, including in turns;
– a deviation from the set trajectory of the movement of the car when braking;
– unstable passing of turns and drift of the car;
– the increased wear of tires which is characterized by deleting of the drawing of a protector;
– emergence of clicks and extraneous noise at the movement of the car. Clicks and easy blows can be caused also by other malfunctions of a suspension bracket, in particular weakening of threaded connections, failure of bearings of naves or wear of hinges of equal angular speeds of shaft of the drive of wheels.
If there were any traces of leak of liquid, shock-absorbers need to be replaced. You make replacement of shock-absorbers in couples on one axis of the car, except for cases when breakage happened on the new car without sufficient run.

Stabilizer of cross stability
Lift the car and reliably fix on supports.
Remove forward wheels and mudguards.
Turn out bolts of fastening of the stabilizer of cross resistance to suspension bracket levers.

Turn out bolts, remove basic arms and plugs (fig. 11.4, 11.5).
Check all rubber plugs for existence of wear and splittings, in case of need replace them.
Remove the back stabilizer of cross stability from the car.
On the forward stabilizer of cross stability turn out bolts, remove the steering mechanism and the stabilizer, having accurately moved it about the steering mechanism, and take through the left niche of a wheel.
Check all rubber plugs for existence of hardening, wear and splittings, in case of need replace them.
Correctly arrange the stabilizer of cross stability. Make sure that the stabilizer is installed so that the tag of combination of the plug was on the left side of the car.

Install the plug on the left side of the forward stabilizer of cross stability so that its end face was combined with a tag and the section directed to a forward part of the car (fig. 11.6).
Establish basic arms and fix by bolts, having tightened them the required moment.
Screw bolts and nuts at an end face of the stabilizer and reliably tighten them, at the same time the carving has to act at the length of 25,0 mm after an inhaling of the forward stabilizer of cross stability and at the length of 15,0 mm after an inhaling of the back stabilizer (fig. 11.7).

If bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism turned away, screw them into place and tighten the required moment.

Lower lever
For removal and installation of the lower lever execute the following.
Lift a forward part of the car and reliably fix on supports.

If only the lower lever is removed, disconnect from it only a connecting bolt of the stabilizer of cross stability (fig. 11.8). If both lower levers are removed, remove the stabilizer of cross stability.
Remove a wheel (wheels) and a mudguard (mudguards).
Turn out bolts of fastening of plugs of the lever to the lower frame.
Turn off a nut of fastening of the spherical hinge to a rotary fist and mount disconnect the spherical hinge from a rotary fist.
Lower the lower lever.
Check all rubber plugs for existence of hardening, wear and splittings, in case of need replace them.
Check a dustproof cover and the spherical hinge for existence of wear and damages.
For replacement of a dustproof cover it is necessary to use the special equipment; besides, certain skills in work therefore for performance of this work deliver the lower lever in a specialized workshop are necessary. The spherical hinge cannot be replaced separately from the lever. New plugs can be installed, using a vice and tubes suitable on diameter or mandrels for a vypressovka of old plugs from the lever and a press fitting of new. At installation of plugs use soap solution as lubricant.
Installation of the lower lever of a forward suspension bracket is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal.

PREVENTION
You carry out a final inhaling of nuts and bolts of fastening of the lower lever of a forward suspension bracket to the lower frame after the car stands on wheels.

Rotary fist and nave
Lift a forward part of the car, reliably fix on supports and remove a forward wheel.
Having inserted the screw-driver through a brake support into a brake disk, block a nave from a provorachivaniye and turn off a nut of fastening of a nave. At installation it is necessary to use a new nut.
Turn out bolts of fastening of a support.
Turn out bolts and nuts of fastening are resistant to a rotary fist.
Turn off the nut fixing a tip of steering thirst for a rotary fist.
Stripper disconnect a tip of steering draft of a rotary fist.
Turn off a lock nut and bolts, disconnect the spherical hinge of the lower lever of a forward suspension bracket from a rotary fist.
Stripper for a detachment of a power shaft remove knot of a rotary fist and a nave from a power shaft.
Examine a rotary fist on existence of damages and traces of corrosion, and also bearings on existence of a side play, the complicated rotation or an effluence of fantastic material. For removal of a nave from a rotary fist it is necessary to use a press and special tools therefore this work needs to be performed in a specialized workshop.
Establish a rotary fist on a power shaft, the lower lever of a forward suspension bracket and a damping rack, fix by bolts and nuts, having tightened them the required moment.
Screw a new nut of fastening of a power shaft and tighten it by hand.
Measure by the dynamometer attached to a hairpin of fastening of a wheel the initial moment which needs to be put for a nave provorachivaniye with a power shaft.
Temporarily establish a support.
Having inserted the screw-driver through a brake support into a brake disk, block a nave from a provorachivaniye and tighten the required moment a nut of fastening of a nave. Repeatedly measure the initial moment which needs to be put for a nave provorachivaniye with a power shaft. If the effort to 2 kg exceeds earlier measured, check a condition of the bearing.
If the initial moment remained invariable, hammer a nut fillet into a groove of a power shaft.
Insert the spherical hinge of a tip of steering draft into a rotary fist and fix by a nut, having tightened it the required moment.
Establish a support and a wheel. Lower the car and tighten nuts the required moment.

Damping rack
Removal and installation
Lift a forward part of the car and reliably fix on supports.
Turn off nuts of fastening of a rack to a rotary fist and then remove one nut and a bolt.
In a motor compartment remove the top casing of a rack.
Remove the three-stage switch of the shock-absorber (at its existence).

Turn off four nuts of fastening of a rack to a body (fig. 11.9). Put tags for the subsequent combination of the top part of a rack with a body.
If it is necessary to sort a rack, weaken a nut of fastening of a rod, at the same time
record a shock-absorber rod from a provorachivaniye. Do not turn off a nut completely.
Turn out the remained bolt and a nut of fastening are resistant to a rotary fist, lower a rack down and remove from the car.
Check a rack for existence of leak of depreciation liquid, damages of dustproof covers and a spring of a suspension bracket.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal. Combine earlier put tags when fastening the top part of a rack to a car body.
PREVENTIONS
The spring has very big effort of compression therefore use only very reliable tool.
Do not connect a spring by a wire at all.
When using special device for compression of springs it is necessary to take reliably rounds of a spring and to squeeze a spring from the opposite sides.

Repair
Remove a damping rack of a forward suspension bracket. In the presence remove also the three-running control switch of damping (the driving mechanism).
Fix a damping rack of a forward suspension bracket in a vice with soft sponges and, using special adaptation, squeeze a spring so that it departed from the top part of a rack. When using special device for compression of springs you watch that rounds of a spring were reliably taken, and you carry out compression of a spring from the opposite sides.

Record a key a shock-absorber rod from a provorachivaniye and, using the second cap key, turn off the central nut of fastening of a rod of the shock-absorber (fig. 11.10).
Remove the top support of a rack, the bearing and the top saddle of a spring from a shock-absorber rod.
Remove a spring together with the device for compression of a spring.
Remove a dustproof cover and the buffer of the course of compression from the shock-absorber.
If it is necessary to establish a new spring, smoothly, being careful, part and remove the device for compression of a spring from a spring, then squeeze a new spring.
At installation on one axis of the car it is necessary to use springs with identical technical characteristics (with identical color marking).
Check the shock-absorber for signs of leak of working liquid. Check on all length a shock-absorber rod for lack of pointed corrosion. Check the shock-absorber case for lack of mechanical damages. Install the shock-absorber in vertical position and check its work, moving a shock-absorber rod at full capacity. In all cases the rod of the shock-absorber has to move smoothly, with a notable resistance. If the rod of the shock-absorber moves breakthroughs or there are mechanical damages, the shock-absorber is subject to replacement.
Assembly of a damping rack is carried out to the sequences, the return dismantling.
You carry out a final inhaling of a nut of fastening of a rod of the shock-absorber after installation of a rack on the car.

Three-stage control switches of damping
Check 
Open a cowl and remove a rubber casing of a rack for receiving access to switches of a rack of a forward suspension bracket.
Block back wheels and turn on the parking brake.
Lift a forward part of the car and reliably fix on supports.
Launch the engine, provide good ventilation and include transfer so that the speedometer showed the speed of 15 km/h or more.

PREVENTION
Exclude falling of the car from supports in order to avoid its damage and/or getting injured.

Ask the assistant to turn on control switches of damping (on the dashboard). When switching from situation "car" in situation "sports" "/normal" the executive mechanism has to turn shock-absorber piston rods approximately on 60 °.
If any of switches (executive mechanisms) does not work in a required way, check serviceability of the fuse or define and eliminate the place of break in wires, then check the control unit. If only one of switches is faulty, check an electrical wiring and if it is serviceable, replace the switch.
Upon termination of checks stop the engine and lower the car.
Removal and installation
Disconnect the contact socket from the switch.
Turn out screws and remove the switch from the top part of a rack.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal.
