The carburetor of later models with the 2,0 l engine is equipped with the computer-controlled air gate instead of the hand-operated gate installed on earlier models. The drive of the gate consists of a bimetallic spring which heats up electric current and opens the air gate for a while which duration depends on the air temperature (fig. 14.3).
Except existence of the computer-controlled air gate, the carburetor design practically does not differ from a design of the carburetor of earlier years of release.

Removal and installation
Remove the air filter and disconnect a wire of power supply from the computer-controlled air gate.
Turn out screws, uncover and at the same time disconnect a bimetallic spring from the gate drive lever.

Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal; before an inhaling of screws combine a tag on a cover with the central tag on the case (fig. 14.4).
Check and adjustment
Check conductivity of a heating winding of the computer-controlled air gate, having disconnected from it a wire of food and having connected ohmmeter probes to a wire of a winding and "mass" of the car. If the ohmmeter shows "infinity", so in a winding the break and a cover of the air gate need to be replaced.
Operation of adjustment of a diaphragm of the gate is similar to the operation given in the subsection "Repair and Adjustment of the Carburettor" (see. "Power supply system of petrol engines").

For adjustment of opening of a butterfly valve idling open the gate, lower the lever on the second top step of a cam. Check a gap between a butterfly valve of primary camera and a wall which has to make 0,94–1,38 mm. If it is necessary, adjust it, rotating the adjusting screw (fig. 14.5).
Operation of check of opening of a butterfly valve is similar to the operation given in the subsection "Repair and Adjustment of the Carburettor" (see. "Power supply system of petrol engines"), at the same time the gate of primary camera has to be open on 50 ° before opening of the gate of the secondary camera. The nominal size is 7,32–8,28 mm.

For adjustment of opening of a butterfly valve during the operation of the engine in the mode of idling open a butterfly valve and lower the lever on the second top step of a cam (fig. 14.6). Check that the gap between the upper edge of a butterfly valve and a wall was in limits of 0,60-1,00 mm. If small adjustment is necessary, bend a uvula on the drive lever. If considerable adjustment is necessary, bend draft of the drive.

For adjustment of the safety valve completely open the gate of primary camera, then check that the gap between the upper edge of a butterfly valve of primary camera and a wall was equal to 0,07-0,51 mm; if it is necessary, bend a uvula (fig. 14.7).
For check of work of a butterfly valve in the mode of idling warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature then stop it and remove the air filter. Slightly open a butterfly valve, then completely close the throttle valve and release a butterfly valve. The cam of system of idling will hold a butterfly valve of primary camera opened in the provision of idling. Connect a tachometer, then, without pressing an accelerator pedal, launch the engine and be convinced that the bent shaft of the engine rotates with a frequency of 3000-4000 min.-1. If it is necessary, adjust the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine, rotating the adjusting screw of system of idling. Stop the engine, disconnect a tachometer and install into place the air filter.

System of the distributed fuel injection (DFI)

The RVT system is essentially system of injection of Bosch L-Jetronic fuel. Basic elements of this system are shown in fig. 14.8 and 14.9.

Air consumption measuring instrument
The measuring instrument of a consumption of air measures amount of the air coming to the engine and by means of a potentiometer will transform it to the electric signal sent to the control unit.
The measuring instrument of a consumption of air is supplied with the sensor of temperature of the air coming to the engine, perepuskny system of the mode of idling and the switch of the fuel pump.
Check of the measuring instrument of a consumption of air
Turn out bolts of fastening of a clamping plate and remove a rubber casing from the air consumption measuring instrument socket.
Include ignition and measure by the voltmeter tension between each contact of the socket and "mass" of the car. On contacts of "FC" and "VB" there has to be tension of the rechargeable battery, on contact of "VC" – voltage of 6-10 V, on contact "VS" – 0,7–2,7 Century.
If the measured tension differs, check a condition of wires and a safety lock.
Release clips and disconnect the socket from the air consumption measuring instrument.

The ohmmeter connected between contacts of "E2" and "VS" the socket check resistance which has to be more than 20 Ohms (fig. 14.10). Resistance between contacts of "E2" and "VC" has to be 100–300 Ohms, between contacts of "E2" and "VB" – 200–400 Ohms and between contacts of "E1" and "FC" it has to equal infinity.

Resistance between contacts of "E2" and "TNA" depends on air temperature in the air filter. Uncover the air filter and by means of the thermometer and a source of heat (for example, the hair dryer for drying of hair) measure resistance and compare it to specifications (fig. 14.11).
Open an internal plate of the measuring instrument of a consumption of air and measure resistance between contacts of "E2" and "VS" which has to be less than 400 Ohms. Between contacts of "E1" and "FC" resistance has to be equal to zero.
Make sure that the internal plate moves freely, and if it is necessary, remove with compressed air the deposits and particles interfering movement of a plate.
Establish into place a cover of the air filter and connect the socket.
Removal and installation of the measuring instrument of a consumption of air
Turn out bolts of fastening of a clamping plate and disconnect the socket from the air consumption measuring instrument.
Weaken clips and disconnect the main air hose and two hoses of air supply.
Disconnect the vacuum hoses going to the amplifier of steering or electromagnetic valves of the conditioner.
Uncover the air filter, then turn out bolts of fastening of the measuring instrument of a consumption of air and remove rubber consolidation.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal. Establish new rubber consolidation and upon termination of installation check and adjust the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine in the idling mode.

Throttle knot
The throttle knot is located behind the measuring instrument of a consumption of air and fastens to the broad camera. It is supplied with a butterfly valve which is connected to an accelerator pedal; perepuskny system of the mode of idling; sensor of provision of a butterfly valve; a damper for control of closing of a butterfly valve. The sensor of provision of a butterfly valve sends a signal to the control unit.
Check of throttle knot
Turn the lever of a butterfly valve and be convinced that it will easily mix up. In a free state the lever has to concern the persistent screw of a butterfly valve. If it is necessary, clear axis elements, check a damper for jamming existence.
Launch the engine and warm up it up to the normal working temperature.

Establish idling rotation frequency, then in turn disconnect hoses and check pressure in channels, being guided by fig. 14.12. On channels "A", "B" and "C" there should not be a depression, on D and E channels the level of depression has to be same, as in an inlet collector.
Repeat check with a frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine bigger, than in the idling mode. In channels "A", "B" and "C" there has to be a vacuum, in D and E channels depression has to be less, than in an inlet collector.
Removal and installation of throttle knot
Merge cooling liquid.
Weaken a clip and disconnect an inlet air hose.
Disconnect a cable of an accelerator and the socket from the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve.
Turn out bolts of fastening of an arm.
Disconnect vacuum hoses from the top branch pipes.
Disconnect hoses of cooling and an air hose from the perepuskny valve.
Turn out bolts of fastening of throttle knot to the broad camera, remove laying and disconnect the remained vacuum hoses.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal. Establish new laying and fill in cooling liquid. Adjust an arrangement of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve and frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine in the idling mode.
Check and adjustment of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve
Remove a rubber cover from the socket of the sensor located on the case of throttle knot.

Include ignition and measure by the voltmeter tension between each of contacts of the socket and "weight" (fig. 14.13). On contact "And" there has to be tension 0,4-0,6 B, on contact "In" – less than 1,5 In, on contact "With" – 4,5-5,5 B and on contact of "D" – less than 1,5 Century.
Completely open a butterfly valve and repeat check. On contact "And" there has to be tension 4,5 B, on contact of "D" – about 12 Century. On contacts "In" and "With" there has to be same tension as measured earlier.
If tension on contact of "D" does not correspond to the required value, check adjustment of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve. If tension on other contacts does not correspond to the required values, check resistance of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve.
Switch off ignition and establish a rubber casing.
For adjustment of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve disconnect the socket.

Insert the probe for check of gaps 0,2 mm thick between the lever of a butterfly valve and the adjusting screw, then measure by an ohmmeter continuity of a chain between contacts of "D" and "In" on the sensor (fig. 14.14). Insert the probe 0,5 mm thick, resistance between contacts has to be equal to infinity.
If it is necessary, adjust position of the sensor for obtaining the required results.
Before connection of the socket an ohmmeter measure resistance between contacts of the socket. At the closed butterfly valve resistance between contacts "And" and "In" has to be about 500 Ohms, and at the open gate – about 4500 Ohms. Between contacts "In" and "About" resistance has to be in limits of 4000-6000 Ohms irrespective of the provision of a butterfly valve, otherwise replace the sensor.

Air valve
The air valve is installed in the perepuskny hose making a detour of throttle knot. It has the electric coil of an incandescence and a bimetallic spring. When the engine cold, the valve is open and passes additional air for operation of the engine in the idling mode. During warming up the bimetallic spring gradually closes the valve, returning thus a bent shaft of the engine to normal rate of rotation in the idling mode.
Check of the air valve
Launch the engine and leave it to work in the idling mode, then press perepuskny a hose near the case of throttle knot and be convinced that the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine decreased.
If the engine is not heated-up and the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft does not decrease, check tightness of hoses and a condition of the air valve.
If the engine is heated-up and the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft decreases more than for 200 min.-1, disconnect the socket from the valve and remove a rubber casing. At the included ignition the voltmeter check tension on contact of "GR" of the socket which has to be equal to tension of the rechargeable battery. Otherwise check the corresponding wires and the relay.
After a socket detachment measure by an ohmmeter resistance between contacts of the air valve which has to be in limits of Z0-45 of Ohms.
Connect the socket.
Having disconnected two hoses, include ignition and check that the valve was open on the cold engine and was closed after warming up of the engine.
Switch off ignition and establish hoses into place.

Fuel pump
The fuel pump is located in the lower back part of the car near the fuel tank. The fuel pump of centrifugal type, with five rollers moving planetarno in a dividing plate.
The quencher of diaphragm type at the exit of the fuel pump reduces the impulses of pressure of fuel created by pump rollers. On the fuel pump the valve intended for maintenance of residual pressure in system at the idle engine is provided.
The electric chain of the fuel pump contains the switch installed on the measuring instrument of a consumption of air and which is switching off the pump at an engine stop.
Check, removal and installation
The manometer and tube are necessary for check of pressure created by the fuel pump.
Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the rechargeable battery.

Disconnect a fuel hose from the fuel filter from the engine and connect instead of it the manometer (fig. 14.15).
Connect a wire to the negative plug of the rechargeable battery and include ignition.

Piece of a wire connect among themselves contacts of the control socket of the fuel pump (fig. 14.16) and check pressure of fuel which has to be in limits of 3,5-5,0 kg/cm2.
For check of a winding of an anchor of the fuel pump block forward wheels, lift a back part of the car and fix on support.
Disconnect the socket from the fuel pump, measure by an ohmmeter resistance between its contacts. If resistance is equal 1,0 Ohms, the fuel pump is serviceable.
For removal of the fuel pump disconnect inlet and final hoses and the socket, then turn out bolts of fastening of an arm.
After removal of the fuel pump its work can be checked, giving voltage of 12 V to contacts of its socket.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal.
Check of the relay of the fuel pump

The relay of disconnection of a chain installed on the right side of a partition gives current for the fuel pump and the air valve only at start-up and operation of the engine (fig. 14.17). After an engine stop the chain is disconnected by the switch of the fuel pump on the air consumption measuring instrument.

At the included ignition measure by the voltmeter tension between contacts on the relay (fig. 14.18). Tension between contacts of "Fc" and "In" has to be equal to 12 V. Otkroyta a measuring plate of the measuring instrument of a consumption of air and be convinced that tension between contacts of "Fp" and "In" equal 12 Century.
Disconnect and connect a wire of "NT" of the coil of ignition to "weight", then ask the assistant to turn a key in the ignition switch in the provision of launch of the engine and check that between contacts of "Fp", "In" and "STA" was tension of 12 Century.
Disconnect the socket from the relay and measure by an ohmmeter resistance between contacts of "STA" and "E1" which has to be in limits of 15-30 Ohms, between contacts "In" and "Fc" – 80–150 Ohms and between contacts "In" and "Fp" is equal to infinity.
If necessary replace the relay.
Check of pressure of fuel
The manometer, tee and tube are necessary for check of pressure.
Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the rechargeable battery.
Disconnect a fuel hose from the fuel filter from the engine and connect instead of it the manometer.
Connect a wire to the negative plug of the rechargeable battery and include ignition.
Piece of a wire connect among themselves contacts of the control socket of the fuel pump (see fig. 14.15) and check pressure of fuel which has to be 2,5–2,85 kg/cm2.
Launch the engine and leave it to work in the idling mode then be convinced that pressure of fuel is in limits of 1,9-2,3 kg/cm2.
If pressure of fuel does not correspond to demanded, check the fuel filter, the pump and the regulator of pressure.
Switch off ignition, remove a connecting wire and the manometer then establish into place a fuel hose.

Fuel nozzles
Fuel nozzles inject fuel into the input channels. The amount of injectable fuel is defined by time during which the needle valve of a nozzle is open that it, in turn, is defined by the signal received from the RVT system control unit.
All four nozzles open at the same time, once for a turn of a bent shaft that provides two injections of fuel for each cycle.
Check, removal and installation
Launch the engine and warm up it up to the normal working temperature, then leave to work in the idling mode.
For bystry check put an edge of the long screw-driver in turn to the case of each of nozzles and listen to the clicks going from needle valves. The faulty nozzle will not click, in this case further check is necessary.
Leave the engine to work in the mode of idling and in turn disconnect sockets from each nozzle. Frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine has to decrease for 100–2200 min.-1 at a socket detachment from each nozzle.
Stop the engine and disconnect sockets from nozzles. By means of an ohmmeter be convinced that resistance between two contacts of each of nozzles equally in 12-16 Ohms. Otherwise the nozzle is faulty, it needs to be replaced.
For removal of a nozzle disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the rechargeable battery.
If the engine hot, wait until it cools down.
Disconnect fuel hoses from the fuel filter and the regulator of pressure. For prevention of spraying of fuel wind hoses with fabric before their separation.
Disconnect sockets from all nozzles.
Turn out bolts of fastening of the regulator of pressure to an end face of the fuel distributive highway.
Turn out bolts and remove the fuel distributive highway from nozzles.
Remove rubber sealing rings and plugs, nozzles and insulators.

For further check of nozzles establish them to the fuel distributive highway and fix by wires (fig. 14.19).
Temporarily connect the fuel distributive highway between the fuel filter and the pipeline of return of fuel.
Connect a wire to the negative plug of the rechargeable battery and include ignition.
Connect among themselves plugs of the control socket of the fuel pump a piece of a wire and be convinced that from the ends of nozzles gasoline does not exude (see fig. 14.16). Emergence of a small amount of gasoline in 5 min. is admissible.
The measuring vessel, wires and the power supply for 12 Century are necessary for check of volume of the fuel injected by a nozzle.
Working in turn with each nozzle, put on the end of a plastic tube the end of a nozzle and place the second end in a measuring vessel.
Connect plugs of the control socket of the fuel pump and include ignition.
Give on a nozzle voltage of 12 V on 15 with and be convinced that the volume of injectable fuel is equal to 44-62 cm3.

Remove the control and measuring equipment and establish nozzles into place. Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal, at the same time establish new rubber sealing rings (fig. 14.20). Lower them in gasoline directly before their installation and installation of the fuel distributive highway.

Fuel pressure regulator
If fuel pressure in nozzles was always constant, then fluctuations of depression in an inlet collector would cause giving of incorrect amount of fuel even if the period of injection would be correct. To eliminate this defect, the fuel pressure regulator which supports pressure of fuel 2,7 kg/cm2 higher, than pressure in an inlet collector is provided.

Fuel filter
The fuel filter is located in a motor compartment on the fuel pipeline going to nozzles. It purifies fuel of small particles which can interfere with operation of needle valves of nozzles.

RVT system control unit
The control unit of the RVT system processes information arriving from sensors and operates work of nozzles and the electromagnetic valve of warming up of the engine in the idling mode. It is supplied with also digital system of the check distinguishing malfunctions in chains of sensors. The control unit of the RVT system is located under the dashboard.

Adjustment of a cable of an accelerator of the RVT system

Make sure that when the pedal of an accelerator is completely released, the free wheeling of a cable of an accelerator is equal to 1,0-3,0 mm. If it is necessary, weaken nuts of fastening of a cover of a cable from the engine and fix it so that the free wheeling was equal demanded (fig. 14.21). After adjustment tighten nuts.
Completely press a pedal of an accelerator and be convinced that the butterfly valve is completely open. If it is necessary, adjust the provision of a restrictive bolt of a pedal of an accelerator.

Check of elements of system of electronic control of injection
The control unit of the RVT system gives the operating signals to nozzles and the electromagnetic valve of warming up of the engine on the basis of information from the following elements:
– ignition coils;
– air consumption measuring instrument;
– the sensor of temperature of the arriving air;
– sensor of temperature of cooling liquid;
– sensor of provision of a butterfly valve;
– the switch on a brake pedal;
– conditioner switch;
– radiator fan switch;
– radiator fan engine;
– switch of a heater of back glass;
– switch of headlights;
– sensor of a provorachivaniye of a bent shaft of the engine starter;
– rechargeable battery.
Dealers have Mazda and in specialized workshops on car repairs of Mazda there is a device for check of digital codes which allows to define quickly a malfunction source in the RVT system and to eliminate malfunction.
Do not forget that it is forbidden to connect a tester to the control unit.

Check, removal and installation of the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid
Remove a rubber casing from the socket on the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid.
Launch the engine and warm up it up to the normal working temperature then leave it to work in the idling mode.
Be convinced by the voltmeter that tension between contact of "LR" and "weighing" about 0,5 V.
For check of operation of the sensor merge cooling liquid, disconnect the socket and turn out the sensor. Suspend it in the container with water and connect an ohmmeter between its contacts. Heat water, the thermometer taking its temperature. At a temperature of 20 °C resistance of the sensor has to be 2210–2690 Ohms, at a temperature of 80 °C resistance has to be 290–354 Ohms.
Replace the sensor if it is faulty.
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal. Fill in cooling liquid.

Check of the central relay

The central relay is located on the left side of a motor compartment and fastens a nut to an arm (fig. 14.22).

At the included ignition by means of the voltmeter be convinced that tension on contacts "And", "With" and "D" is equal to tension of the rechargeable battery (contact "In" – "weight") (fig. 14.23).
For further check of the relay remove it and connect an ohmmeter between contacts "And" and "In" – the ohmmeter has to show resistance of 70 Ohms.
Connect a wire of "weight" to contact "In" and give voltage of 12 V on contact "And".
Connect an ohmmeter between contacts "With" and "D" and check resistance. It has to equal to zero.
Having executed check, install the relay into place.

Adjustment of the valve of warming up of the engine
Launch the engine and warm up it up to the normal working temperature.
Stop the engine and connect a tachometer.

Disconnect sockets from the engine of the fan of a radiator and the magnetic coupling of the conditioner (fig. 14.24).

Give tension from the rechargeable battery to contact of "GB" of the valve of warming up of the engine and launch the engine (fig. 14.25). If all consumers of the electric power are switched off, the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine has to be 1200–1300 min.-1. Otherwise adjust the valve, rotating the adjusting screw.
Stop the engine, connect sockets and remove a tachometer.

Adjustment of the valve of the amplifier of steering
Connect a tachometer to the engine, then let and warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature.
Disconnect the socket from the valve of the amplifier of steering.

Connect a wire of "weight" to contact of "GR" (fig. 14.26). If all consumers of the electric power are switched off, the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine idling has to be 950–1050 min.-1. Otherwise adjust the valve, rotating the adjusting screw.
Switch off the engine, connect sockets and remove a tachometer.

Adjustment of the valve of adjustment of loading
Connect a tachometer to the engine, let and warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature.
Disconnect the socket from the valve of adjustment of loading.

Connect a wire of "weight" to contact of "BrY" (fig. 14.27). If all are switched off
consumers of the electric power, the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine idling has to be 950–1000 min.-1. Otherwise adjust the valve, rotating the adjusting screw.
Stop the engine and remove a tachometer.
Before connection of the socket of ohmmeters measure resistance between contacts of the socket of the valve. Resistance has to be about 30 Ohms.
