2.6. Check and service of the rechargeable battery

The rechargeable battery is intended for launch of the engine and food of consumers at the idle engine when the generator does not develop the electric power.
For service of the rechargeable battery soda, technical vaseline, a wire stripper from the plug of the rechargeable battery and the tool are necessary for cleaning of wires and plugs of an eye protection and hands. If the battery has traffic jams in banks, measurement of density of electrolyte will require the areometer.
On the car the unattended rechargeable battery which service comes down to maintenance in purity of the case and plugs can be installed. In such batteries there is no antimony making harmful effects on plates, and in a cover of the case the separator absorbing vapors of electrolyte and then returning it in banks of the battery therefore the water evaporation leading to reduction of level of electrolyte is excluded is established. Owing to maintenance of stable level of electrolyte the term of operation of the rechargeable battery significantly increases.
In case of use of the unattended rechargeable battery the condition of the battery can be checked only the voltmeter.

From side air vents of the unattended battery in insignificant quantities hydrogen therefore it is impossible to hold the battery near sources of naked flame, sparks is emitted, it is forbidden to smoke.

It is necessary to check periodically a condition of the case or a cover of the rechargeable battery for absence of damage.
Check reliability of fastening of clips of the wires connected to plugs of the rechargeable battery to provide good contacts, and also check all wires for lack of cracks and attritions.
If there are obvious traces of corrosion in the form of white deposits, then it is necessary to remove clips of wires from plugs, to clean them together with plugs of the battery and to establish into place. Corrosion can be minimized by drawing a layer of dense oil or lubricant on clips of wires and the plug after their installation.
Check that the protective rubber cap of the positive plug was not damaged (if it is). The cap has to close the plug completely.
Make sure that the holder of the rechargeable battery in good shape and tightening bolts are reliably tightened. If the rechargeable battery is removed from the holder, at his installation be convinced that on the basis of the holder foreign objects do not lie. At an inhaling of tightening bolts do not draw them.
Places of corrosion of the holder, the case of the rechargeable battery and surrounding surfaces need to be processed water solution of soda, but be careful – solution should not get into eyes, on skin or clothes. Surely use protective gloves. Wash out all processed sites clear water.
All metal surfaces of the car damaged by corrosion have to be covered with soil on the basis of zinc, and then are painted.
It is necessary to check periodically electrolyte density in the rechargeable battery to define load ability of the battery. Turn out traffic jams from cans of the rechargeable battery. Gain such amount of electrolyte that the measuring float freely floated in it in the areometer. On a float determine density by a scale. Figures on a scale mean the following: 1,260 g/cm3 – the rechargeable battery is completely charged; 1,160 g/cm3 – the rechargeable battery is charged half; 1,060 g/cm3 – the rechargeable battery is discharged.
At equally low density of electrolyte in all banks of the rechargeable battery charge the battery. If it is discharged only one bank of the rechargeable battery, so the rechargeable battery is faulty – check it in a workshop.
