2.7. Check, adjustment of a tension and replacement of driving belts

Driving belts, or belts of V-shaped type, are located from the forward party of the engine and put auxiliary units in action. It is necessary to check a state and a tension of belts periodically.
Cars are equipped with belts of a special design which should be replaced only with belts of the same type.
The number of the belts used on the car depends on the installed equipment. Belts are used for the drive of the generator, the pump of the hydraulic booster of steering and the compressor of the conditioner. Depending on an arrangement of pulleys one belt can be used for the drive of several units.

Turning a bent shaft of the engine, turn poliklinovy a belt on several turns and visually check its state. Only thus it is possible to see all surfaces of a poliklinovy belt as often the belt has only one, but deep crack which when checking can precisely settle down on a pulley. With defects immediately replace poliklinovy a belt.
The tension of each belt is checked by measurement of a deflection when pressing a belt on the center between pulleys (in the points designated by shooters in fig. 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10). Strongly press a belt a thumb of a hand and measure by a ruler a belt deflection.
The tension (and easing) a belt is regulated by the tension mechanism. Fastening of each unit of the engine is carried out adjusting and hinged by bolts which need to be released for movement of the unit. The tension of a belt of the drive of the power steering and compressor of the conditioner is regulated by turn only of an adjusting bolt of a single pulley. Before adjustment it is necessary to weaken a lock-nut of a single pulley and to tighten it after the end of adjustment.
After weakening of bolts move the unit from the engine for increase in a tension of a belt or aside to the engine for weakening of its tension aside. Holding the unit in this situation, check a belt tension. If a tension normal, accurately tighten two bolts, then repeatedly check a tension. For movement of the unit at adjustment of a tension of a belt it is possible to use an assembly shovel. Use it very accurately not to damage the moved unit or the element used as an emphasis.
For replacement weaken a tension of an old belt and remove it from pulleys. If two belts are established, at first it is necessary to take off the most distant belt from the engine from the engine even if its replacement is not required. Establish a new belt and adjust its tension, meaning that the tension of a new belt differs from a tension of the belt which was in the use. After the small run of the car repeatedly check a belt tension.
