8.6. System of automatic adjustment of temperature of the soaked-up air

The system of automatic control of air temperature is intended for increase in profitability of the engine and decrease in content of hydrocarbons in the fulfilled gases during warming up due to maintenance of the increased air temperature on an entrance to the carburetor. Regulation of air temperature on an entrance allowed to change tarirovochny data of the carburetor and position of the air gate towards impoverishment of fuel-air mix.
This system consists of the perepuskny device with the adjustable gate installed on a nozzle of the soaking-up branch pipe of the air filter and the ratio of the cold and warm air directed to the carburetor providing regulation. Position of the gate of the device changes by means of a vacuum diaphragm to which, in turn, the effort from the thermosensitive element located in the air filter is transferred.
The system exerts huge impact on traction qualities of the engine and toxicity of the fulfilled gases throughout the first kilometers of the movement of the car with not heated-up engine.
On the cold engine the device gate completely blocks the channel of the soaking-up branch pipe of the air filter, at the same time only warm air which is previously flowing round a final collector comes to the carburetor. In process of warming up of the engine the gate is slightly opened and through the soaking-up branch pipe an increasing number of cold air begins to arrive. At full warming up of the engine the gate opens completely, providing full access of fresh cold air.
The system of automatic control of air temperature is intended only for supply of the warmed-up air on the cold engine therefore it is important to check periodically it in order to avoid violation of operation of the engine after its warming up because of supply of the overcooled or superheated fuel-air mix.
If the gate of the air filter sticks in situation "no heat", then the engine unstably idles and stops before full warming up owing to what it is necessary to press an accelerator pedal in addition. When sticking the gate in situation "heat" because of constant giving in the carburetor of hot air an impression will be made that the engine is not adjusted.

Check of technical condition
Check of technical condition and service is given in section 2. If there is a need of check at the current maintenance, act according to the sequence given further.
If the gate of the device of automatic control of air temperature not completely cuts supply of cold air after launch of the cold engine, disconnect a hose from a vacuum diaphragm on the soaking-up branch pipe and apply a thumb to a hose opening. If the depression brought to a diaphragm is felt, then freezing or gluing of the gate and draft in the soaking-up branch pipe of the air filter can be the cause of it. If there is a vacuum pump, give depression on the gate drive to be convinced of its working capacity, previously having disconnected a regular vacuum hose. If giving of depression from the pump does not cause opening of the gate of the regulator of temperature, and at the correct connection of a vacuum hose the gate opens freely, replace a vacuum diaphragm.
If in the test given above depression on a diaphragm is absent, check hoses for existence of cracks, perezhatiya, and also reliability of their connections.
If there is no contamination of hoses also they in good shape, replace the thermosensitive element located in the case of the air filter.

Replacement of details
Vacuum diaphragm of the air filter
Disconnect a vacuum hose from a diaphragm.
Turn out the limiter screw, unhook draft and turn out a diaphragm from the case of the air filter.
At installation enter a diaphragm into the case of the air filter, screw it, attach draft, screw the limiter screw.
Attach a vacuum hose.
Thermosensitive element of the air filter
Remove the air filter to provide access to space under it.
Remember an arrangement of vacuum hoses and disconnect them from a thermosensitive element.
Carefully note the provision of an element as precisely in this situation it is necessary to establish a new element. Having raised, take an element from the case of the air filter.
Establish a new element just in the same situation, as removed, attach vacuum hoses.
Establish the filtering element and the top cover of the filter.
